Since then, Sony has produced millions of portable cassette players with exceptional sound. Other Japanese companies produced good models, but everyone wanted to own a Sony Walkman in the 1980s. It was a status thing. The TPS-L2 also featured in the film Guardians of the Galaxy.
Other Japanese manufacturers produced their own versions. But everyone wasnted a Sony Walkman in the 1980s.

- Dubbing Walkman (WM-W800) – Released in 1985, this is the only true double-cassette Walkman ever made. It functions as a miniature, pocket-sized dubbing deck. With this model, you could make your tape copies or mix tapes on-the-go!
- YPPY Series – A colourful range of moderately featured Walkmans, to appeal to a young audience. Sony gave the units of the YPPY series unique names.
- My First Sony Walkman (WM-3060) – My first Sony, aimed at kids. No frills, low cost, and durable. Window is showing mechanism, not cassette. Not suitable for children under 36 months.
