With remote working now becoming a norm, the workforce is increasingly using collaboration tools like Microsoft Teams. Even school administrative staff, teachers, and students now use Teams. But an organization in India has set a record of sorts with a large number of its employees using Microsoft’s collaboration tool.

HCL Technologies (HCL), a leading global technology company, announced that it now has over 100,000 employees globally using Microsoft Teams, on a monthly basis.

In these difficult times, with social distancing becoming the norm, Microsoft Teams has enabled HCL employees to connect and collaborate with colleagues from the safety of their homes. The milestone brings a powerful validation of HCL’s Fluid Workplace initiative that is designed to assist and quickly roll out new ways of working that will outlast the impact of the global health pandemic.

HCL has a philosophy of a Fluid Workplace that will allow its customers to use the platform successfully to actualize their vision of Digital Workplaces (DWP), and make it their default model.

The milestone is a testimony to how quickly and easily HCL employees have overcome disruption created by the global health pandemic and the usage of Realtime Collaboration to provide business continuity, collaborate with colleagues and ensure they work seamlessly with partners and customers. Its goal is to use the stack as a permanent solution to safer environments, improved productivity, effective collaboration and happier employees.

New Teams features

Microsoft recently announced new Teams features that are designed to alleviate the need for disparate tools and instead, offer one central hub for individuals, groups, and families to collaborate, stay connected, and organized. With the new features that extend beyond work life to personal life, users can expect to connect, collaborate, and jointly organize their lives across workgroups, friends, and family. The new features have started rolling out in preview to the Teams mobile app across iOS and Android and will be fully rolled out in the coming weeks.

Some of the features you can try in preview allow you to:

  • Stay connected with text chat and video calling: Microsoft Teams will become the messaging hub for all personal chats and video and voice calls, with fun features like sharing GIFs, photos, videos, documents, and even location already integrated. Users can create groups to chat and call, to stay connected with family and friends.
  • Keep everyone on the same page and pick up where they left off: Users will be able to stay organized by sharing lists, documents, and calendars all within the group dashboard. Microsoft Teams will allow users to easily go back and see the chats, tasks, pictures, videos, and group calendars shared within the dashboard, providing a great way to pick up conversations or projects where they left off.
  • Collaborate and share important documents efficiently and securely: Microsoft Teams integrates with other Microsoft 365 apps so users can easily share from Word, Excel, and PowerPoint right from within the Teams app. All documents are also stored on OneDrive and users can now access these documents across other devices – whether it is for planning a family budget or preparing kids’ schedules.
  • Easily share location and information: Location sharing is now available as part of these new personal features as well, making it easier for users to share their location and find their friends.

Microsoft Teams will also come with a Safe, which lets users securely store and share important information, like passwords, rewards numbers, or login information. Users can easily share this information directly from the Teams app with families and friends, all backed by the security of two-factor authentication and end-to-end encryption.
